General Centre Information Recognised youth groups, such as Schools, Youth Clubs and other charitable or public funded groups and their leaders may use the centre throughout the year, space permitting. We expect the groups to ensure that they have organised the correct accreditation and permits as detailed by the youth group they are associated with, this includes all adults supervising young people to be checked. We expect all staff and site users to be treated with respect and dignity and we do not welcome inappropriate language. Any person behaving in an inappropriate manner will be removed from site immediately and their behaviour reported to the appropriate authorities. Care of Valuables The centre rooms are rarely locked so particular care should be taken with valuables. Money should be held in a camp bank and locked in the leader room (a key for the leader’s room is available from the office). Young people should be discouraged from bringing valuables with them. Locked Rooms Smaller groups may find that some rooms have been locked, not for use. If this causes a problem with your sleeping plan please let us know. Alternatively you could fax us your sleeping plan in advance. Potentially dangerous occurrences or concerns should be recorded in the ‘Near miss’ book, which is held in the Office. Supervision During programme times someone must always be contactable, as you remain in loco parentis at all times. You must provide adequate supervision for those in your care outside programme times. The town tends to have a very social atmosphere, as licensed premises are open until late. Whilst we appreciate you may need to take a break, you must ensure a responsible person is looking after your party who is not under the influence of alcohol. Please enjoy yourself and have a good time but expect no favours if you return to site and are noisy, abusive or unable to effectively carry out your responsibilities. We have a site rule that no one under 18 may consume alcohol. We have no objections to leaders having a quiet drink after the youngsters have gone to bed as long as they all remain in a fit state to deal with an emergency and if necessary drive their charges to hospital.
Laundry & Drying Facilities We have one commercial washing machines – tokens and washing powder available at reception cost €10.00 and tumble driers €4 per 20 minutes – these facilities are for adult use only. Wet clothes must be wrung out before being placed in a dryer. There are also drying rooms available. Leaders are asked to take charge of the drying rooms as they are abused when unsupervised.
Phones The Duty Staff number 071-9640588 is for emergency use. We recommend that where possible a leader give their own mobile number to parents for emergency contact. A public phone is located by the car park in the village. Smoking The centre operates a no smoking policy. Any leaders who smoke, are requested to do so off site and to dispose of their cigarette ends carefully, we also request that you smoke out of sight of the young people.
Site Tidiness Each visiting party will be allocated a cleaning task to keep the site free of litter. We would prefer it though if the country and litter code were strongly encouraged. You are responsible for site cleanliness and the facility should be left as found or better. Lights Out and Noise Whilst at the centre you are living in the heart of a village. We respect other people and part of this is keeping down noise and disturbance at night or first thing in the morning. In general the centre should be quiet between 2200 and 0800. Whilst not wishing to be spoilsports it is essential that everyone is well rested as the activities are strenuous. If someone is too tired or exhausted because of lack of sleep it spoils the fun for them and others within the party.
